Coffee & Cocoa Melt & Pour Soap

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (454 g) shea butter or goat milk melt & pour soap base
  • 1 tbsp finely ground coffee
  • 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp skin-safe coffee fragrance oil
  • 1 tsp sweet almond oil
  • 1 tsp honey (optional)
  • ½ tsp brown mica (optional)
  • ½ tsp vanilla color stabilizer (optional, when appropriate for the fragrance)

Directions

  1. Cut the soap base into small cubes.
  2. Melt gently in a microwave-safe container using short intervals, stirring between each interval.
  3. Stir in the sweet almond oil, honey if using, and skin-safe fragrance.
  4. Combine the finely ground coffee and cocoa powder.
  5. Mix a small amount of melted soap into the dry ingredients to create a smooth slurry.
  6. Add the slurry back into the melted soap and stir thoroughly.
  7. Add mica if desired and gently swirl.
  8. Pour into the mold and allow the soap to fully harden before unmolding.
Pro tip Use finely ground coffee rather than coarse grounds for a gentler exfoliating bar.

  • ½ tsp brown mica (optional)

  • 1 lb (454 g) shea butter melt & pour soap base
  • 1 tbsp finely ground coffee
  • 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp skin-safe chocolate or mocha fragrance
  • 1 tsp sweet almond oil
  • 1 tsp honey (optional)
  • ½ tsp dark brown mica (optional)
  • ½ tsp vanilla color stabilizer (optional, when appropriate for the fragrance)

Directions

  1. Melt the soap base gently until completely smooth.
  2. Stir in sweet almond oil, honey if using and skin-safe fragrance.
  3. Divide the melted soap into two portions.
  4. Add coffee and cocoa powder to one portion.
  5. Add mica to the second portion if desired.
  6. Pour the two portions into the mold and gently swirl with a skewer or spoon.
  7. Lightly dust the top with cocoa or coffee if desired.
  8. Allow to fully harden before unmolding.
Pro tip Swirl two or three times only. Over-swirling blends the portions into one flat brown instead of a marble.

A little soapmaking note

Use only fragrance oils specifically labeled for skin or cosmetic use, and follow the supplier's recommended usage rate.

Coffee and oatmeal should be finely ground for a gentler bar.
